  • A Cultural Investigation of the Da Vinci Code and Its Missiological Implications
This paper is written with the hope that it will cause some in the body of Christ to think critically and creatively about how to live and serve in pop culture, to stimulate us to active awareness of what is happening around us, to understand the contemporary currents of thought and expression swirling about us, and most of all, to glorify God among the nations in this generation, till he comes.

  • Ten Not So Great Admissions:
    (1) I can remember the first time I knew that I sinned. (2) When I was a kid I accidently started a forest fire. This wasn't my first sin! (3) When I was a kid I unintentionally flooded neighbors yards by damming up the creek. (4) I was an angry juvenile delinquent. (5) I was concerned about my soul at a young age. (6) I ran away from home on October 1, 1968. (7) In some ways I am obsessive-compulsive. (8) My high school art teacher wanted me to attend the Maryland Institute of Art. I'm getting to get into a profession where I can fight back. I'm going to become an attorney!"

One-Line Bio

I'm a practical theologian and a facilitative church planter mentoring Czech men in Christian discipleship.

Biography

Deep down I'm a southern hillbilly. My early elementary years were spent in Turkey Dip, WV (in a holler just outside of Oceana). Then I lived in Winston-Salem, NC for four years. My best friend and wife of twenty-eight years is Ellen Elizabeth MacFarquhar-Harris. I fell in love with her before we even met (I saw pictures of her on a friend's piano) and I was smitten the first time I laid my eyes on her. The truth is that I revealed my love for her in a very unromantic way, I told her "I decided to love you." This was probably just a defense mechanism. Our eldest son is Joshua Andrew. He is married to Misha Joy Thompson. They have borne our two grandsons, Jackson Ethan and Hudson James. Our youngest son is Nathan Daniel. Nate and his wife Cari live about 100 miles east of Dallas, TX. My life story tells of a young man who found MVP (Meaning, Value and Purpose) in helping others come to know what it means to be forgiven and know God as their Father.

Interests

Reading. I especially enjoy theology, history and adventure. Recreational music. Playing at playing my acoustic guitar, a Taylor 310, is great therapy. At my request I was given a Hohner, Marine Band harmonica for my 49th birthday. I can play "Mary Had a Little Lamb!" My aspiration is to learn to play the blues harmonica. My tastes in music are eclectic; I enjoy listening to everything from Bach to rock. Creative arts. Though I haven't had a consistent creative outlet for MANY years I am renewing my interest in the arts by venturing into digital media (photography, film and web). Sports. Walking and hiking, biking and golf. A good movie with my best friend. Coffee in European cafes.
